Elements of Grace

Book I: Windblown

Ten years after the US Embassy bombings in Africa, Marine SSG Jake Richards is on a mission to eliminate the mastermind behind the string of terrorist attacks on America. Cassie Wright needs to learn the truth connecting her dad with those attacks. As a new terrorist plot arises, Jake and Cassie must work together to defeat it, or they could lose everything, including their own lives.

Also recognizing a nearly universal desire to make a difference, I want to encourage readers to actively pursue practical ways that they can use their abilities to benefit others locally or around the world. You don’t have to be a hero to make a difference.

Dear Reader,

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey with a team of special ops guys as they transition back to civilian life! I’ve very much enjoyed getting to know Jake and Cassie, and I hope you have as well. Book #2, Grounded, will begin with a bang as we meet Cassie’s cousin Rick and follow Mingo’s story.

This series is called “Elements of Grace” because we’ll be tracking some of the basics that form the foundation of our faith. In Windblown, we grappled with trusting a loving heavenly Father when life becomes more turbulent than we’d like. He truly is the anchor we need during the storms that each of us encounter. While I was dealing with Cassie’s struggles, my own faith was challenged and blessed.

A recurring theme throughout this series is that each of us can do something to make a difference in our world. You don’t have to be some great military hero; you can be a kid or a teacher or a grandfather. I truly believe that God has placed each of us where we are for a reason, and I encourage you to use your strengths, your talents, and your time to make a difference right now, right where you are.

How do you find people or organizations you can help? Here are a few suggestions:

  • Pray about it! God is happy to guide you. (See James 1:5.)
  • Write down a list of your passions or hobbies and brainstorm ways you can use them. Do you love to knit or crochet? Consider donating blankets or homemade stuffed animals to kids in shelters or hospitals. Do infomercials of orphaned kids tug at your heart? Consider giving to an organization that sponsors these children.
  • Do some careful research about nonprofit organizations that interest you. Three sources that may be of help to you are charitynavigator.org, charitywatch.org, and ecfa.org.
  • Talk to your pastor or another community leader and ask for suggestions. They may know of good, solid organizations near you that are desperate for volunteers or donations.

Several of the locations in this book were special to me because of a childhood connection with them. You may learn more about them, about the characters, and about upcoming release dates at akcoulter.com. Book study questions are also available on the website. Feel free to interact with me by email at akc@akcoulter.com. I love to hear from my readers!

May God bless you as you trust His leading.
